What does the immigrant fantasy feel like? A repositioning; of Abosede Afolashade, a first generation immigrant, riding a horse dressed in traditional Yoruba ceremonial wear, filmmaker Adeyemi Michael reimagines his mothers idea of what it meant to be leaving her country of origin, Nigeria as an immigrant 30 years ago for Peckham, South London. The horse is a universal symbol of freedom without restraint a symbol of travel, movement, and desire. This position represents power and agency. Inverting the colonial position and replacing the classic image of a white male European with that of a mother, civil servant, chef, businesswoman, degree student and all the other things mothers and immigrants can be is to directly address the colonial narrative and where immigrants exist within that.
